Dear Joe, Aren't you the guy from Connecticut who came out as our guest and you handled an un-encased rifle in the parking lot? The invitation clearly stated no weapon may be handled in the parking lot unless it is encased or holstered. The members who told you that you were unsafe are not "grumpy old men." Every single member of our club is a safety instructor. Nobody forced you to have lunch with us. We all have lunch every Saturday and guests, even ungrateful ones, are invited to join us, free of charge. Thanks, at least, for giving us the 4 stars out of five for safety. Unfortunately, handling un-encases weapons in the parking lot is very dangerous and against the rules of any range, not just ours, so we must give you one star for safety. By the way, I am sorry you had an unhappy childhood and did not enjoy boot camp. Just the opposite for me. I have read your posting twice and no where do I see a simple thank you for a free day of shooting or a free lunch off the grill. Please return to Connecticut. We have enough people like you here already. 1/27/2014 -It is only the UNLOADED RIFLES that kill people. Nobody knows that your rifle was unloaded. Not even you. That is why every gun range prohibits handling un-encased weapons on the premises. Of course, "it was unloaded." It is astounding to me that someone who claims to have "an impeccable safety record. 43 years, no accidents (knock on wood)," claims to have been in the Navy (our sister service), claims his Gramp was at Pearl Harbour, blah blah blah would handle an un-encased rifle in a gun range parking lot. You are an accident waiting to happen, in my opinion. Joe, all the tragedies occur "in the parking lot," according to our insurance company. You state you "have a bad temper." I think you are an angry person who has no business owning a gun. Anti-social people with eating disorders and "bad tempers" are not welcome at Dos Lupes. I doubt your type is welcome at any gun range. You most certainly did not pay $200.00 to two gentlemen who taught your wife and daughter to shoot. Instruction is always free at Dos Lupes. We don't allow charging of any fee except yearly dues. That "grumpy old man" who informed you that you were unsafe was just doing his job as Safety Officer. All members of Dos Lupes are Safety Officers. Safety and courtesy are number one at Dos Lupes. Please stay away from us. Go shoot in a field somewhere.

Joe, I'm sorry to hear you had such an unenjoyable time during your visit as a guest to Dos Lupes. As a former member (I retired from the Marines in May and relocated to Texas), I can tell you there were no better times for my wife and I in South Carolina than Saturdays at Dos Lupes. It IS rustic but that adds to its charm! I took many of my young Marines out there on Saturdays, did some work, did a lot of shooting (at both targets and breeze) and I never heard ONE complaint. Many mentioned joining and I believe several did. The "break" for lunch was an added bonus that all the members contributed to...good times were had by all. I still stay in touch with Mr. Keep and the members of DL. I'm hoping to locate a club with similar qualities and members here in Texas. Your posting makes me start a Dos Lupes, Western chapter...and I would WELCOME those grumpy old men!!!Marty Pack

About the range I have been a member of Dos Lupes for over six years and I can tell you it is a great place to get some work done, if you are serious about training yourself to be a better shooter , or just want to have some fun. You can get data on your rifle and ammo by shooting targets at 100, 200, 300 yards without getting off your bench. You can walk 60 yards or so over to the combat pistol range and practice your draw from concealment and shoot on the move against steel poppers. About the people There are a lot of great people at this club and there are a lot of individuals with real world knowledge about guns , ammo, optics and shooting skills. There are military marksmen, hunters, skeet shooters and run and gun pistolarios that frequent the range, and if knowledge is what you seek about a particular subject matter, just ask someone. The like minded people here are always willing to share their knowledge and skills. Safety is always paramount and fun unavoidable. About South Carolina woods Unless you know a farmer ( most likely will have to be a relative ) that will give you written permission to shoot on his land, there are few fields other than power lines that one can shoot on without the possibility of the owners returning fire. In the summertime it is hot, I mean underwear soaked and sweaty crack of the butt kind of hot when just sitting around. When it rains the grass grows super fast and you will get your vehicle and your boots muddy and wet if you go to the range during a break in the downpours. The SC woods are full of mosquitos. My uncle came down one year from Pennsylvania to go hog hunting with me and he swears that he saw a mosquito so big it had a tick on it. We just put a little bug spray on and they leave us alone. conclusion Anyone that visits Dos Lupes gun club for consideration of becoming a member should compel themselves to evaluate the club for its safety record, fun and amenities, and good people. All the other elements such as dirt, grass , heat , bugs, just means you are in the woods of South Carolina and “ it is what it is “. J Davis

Dear Crybaby Joe,I think I was the grumpy old man who asked you not to shoot during lunch, this is a club rule. I did not tell you that you had to eat lunch. You mentioned the Corp, you must have been in the pansy platoon. You sound like a "me" person.Think about it. As a member it costs you 83 cents per day to shoot. Get with the program. If you don't like it -get lost.Sincerely,Grumpy Old ManPS - have a nice day!

Bullies. I read the reviews. Mr Joe talks about tall grass and members start with the name calling. How old are we? Grumpy Old Man was the worst. Cry Baby Joe? He seemed to provoke this man. Sorry guys but I do not want to be around a bunch of bullies with guns. No Thank You!

Nope, not going back as a guest, ever. I liked the range and had fun but one old man ruined it. I was showing my son, age 14 how to respect an AR, handle it, aim, SPORTs method and having a good time. This guy, Grumpy Old Man, yelled at me and told me "children" shouldn't handle weapons and to pack up and go home! I tried to ignore but my son couldn't focus so we packed up. He then said "that's right get of my %*# range." I am a military Vet and never ever, even in boot came have been put to shame like this man did to my son and I. Never again sir, bullies for sure.

MATTMAN58, I am sorry that you had a bad experience during your visit. Believe me, we are not all "Grumpy Old Men" but I won't sugar coat it, we have a few who just don't know they are "Grumpy" and an even fewer that are "Buttheads", such is life.Don't let one Butthead or any of the Grumpy ones keep you from enjoying one of the finest ranges anywhere.I would like to extend an invitation to you and your son to be my guest any day of your choice. Saturdays are the open club days and the day we generally have guests but I am willing to meet you any day you choose.Just drop me an email at email@example.com . I look forward to meeting you. LeeEdited to add comment to LindaHave you ever been out to visit with us? If you had I doubt you would feel as you do. I extend the same invitation to you as I gave to MATTMAN58. We have several Woman Shooters and are attracting more each day. Come on out and shoot with us on any Saturday, lunch is on us...

We have been a member for 5 years and have enjoyed the times we have spent at the club, everyone one we have encounted have been very nice, we enjoy taking a break to have a free lunch, gives me time to chat about some different guns that I collect and meet the members, the owner is very nice as we'll and try's very hard to keep it a safe place to shoot, I think he has said something to me one time, but if I was unsafe he should have, I didn't get mad and stop comming, I try to follow the rules and don't give anyone a reason to call me down, we are all members and if something is in need of repair let's work together and fix it, its our club lets take pride in it and do what we can to make it the best it can be
