Para - USA - Firearms

Para-Ordnance was founded in Canada by Ted Szabo and Thanos Polyzos in 1985. Szabo is an immigrant from Hungary while Polyzos is from Greece. The company is currently based in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2012, the company became part of the larger Freedom Group which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management.

Para-Ordnance is maker of the high-magazine capacity M1911-style pistols. The company affords various products not only for the military and law enforcement agencies but for the civilian market as well. The company is the originator of an accurate  double-stack 1911 pistol including a single and double-stack pistols chambered in .38, 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP super calibers. Para pistols were engineered to answer the requirements of  law enforcers, competitions, general barrier shooting and concealed-carry guns.

The TTR (Tactical Target Rifle) was released by Para-Ordnance in 2009. This gun features DIGS which is a delayed gas blowback system over the barrel. This has less recoil when compared with a traditional gas system. The recoil spring assembly is relocated under the handguard and over the barrel for a true folding stock.  Para-Ordnance is also the maker of the first double-action-only 1911-style pistol. With the introduction of Light Double Action (LDA), law enforcers can use their 1911-style pistol as without ignoring the liability concerns of a single-action pistol.
